Wix Section - about.png

As a trans-focused organization, TransPonder works to improve access to services, resources, and experiences for the trans community. Through ongoing dialogue with community members, it became clear that they, as well as the broader queer, BIPOC, and disabled communities, face a wide variety of barriers when it comes to access to the outdoors and nature-based activities.

In response, TransPonder, along with our partner organizations, Cascadia Wildlands and Mount Pisgah Arboretum, developed an initiative called TransWild that seeks to create community partnerships and alliances that remove those barriers by promoting active allyship, awareness, and community for queer, trans, BIPOC, and disabled people within outdoor settings.

As part of this initiative, we host the TransWild Forest Frolic, a free, all ages event, each year at Mount Pisgah. At the event folks can participate in workshops about camping, hiking, or other nature topics, learn about water tables, fire prevention, and native plants, go on nature walks and try birding, or simply enjoy some music in a beautiful outdoor setting.

Community partners like Lane County Queer Birders, Oregon Food Bank, Glimmer Camp, Whole Earth Nature School, and others host booths, provide activities, and lead workshops to teach folks about native plants, the role of humans in the conservation of our natural resources, and how to engage more with nature.
